Events

We aim to envision, empower, and enrich decolonial scholarly and pedagogical practices in Korean studies at the nexus of the U.S. empire and postcolonial Korea. For the 2023-24 academic year, we offered a series of mentoring workshops for early-stage Korean studies scholars, focusing on issues such as navigating and contesting hegemonic whiteness, ethnonationalism, methodological nationalism, and heteronormativity and cisnormativity within Korean studies.

For the 2024-25 academic year, we plan to offer a series of professionalization workshops to democratize the “hidden curriculum” in Korean studies regarding publications, networking, and the job market. Additionally, we will host panels and roundtables on the critical positionality of Korea, the Korean diaspora, and Korean studies in addressing urgent historical and contemporary issues. Lastly, we are running an early-career scholars’ happy hour to build communities of care and solidarity.
